A kingpin repair kit mostly  contains the following parts :

1. Kingpin:

This is the key part. It is a solid pin that connects the front axle (I-beam) and the steering knuckle, and serves as the pivot

for the steering knuckle to rotate.

Function: Provides a precise center of rotation to withstand the impact and steering force from the wheels. Wear or

deformation can cause loose steering and deviation.

2. Kingpin Bushing:

It is usually a sleeve made of copper alloy or composite material, which is pressed into the pin hole of the steering knuckle.

Function: As a wear-resistant bearing between the kingpin and the steering knuckle hole, it reduces friction and ensures that

the kingpin can rotate smoothly in the steering knuckle. Increased clearance after wear is one of the main causes of loose steering

and abnormal noise.

3. Kingpin Shim/Adjustment Shim:

Thin metal shim installed at the top and/or bottom of the kingpin.

Function:

Axial positioning: Ensure that the kingpin is in the correct axial position in the steering knuckle to prevent up and down movement.

Adjusting the clearance: By increasing or decreasing the thickness of the shim, the axial clearance between the kingpin and the

bushing can be precisely adjusted. Proper clearance is essential to eliminate looseness and ensure smooth steering.

4. Kingpin thrust bearing/plane thrust washer:

In some designs (especially those that bear heavy loads), a needle roller thrust bearing or a wear-resistant plane washer is installed

at the bottom of the kingpin.

Function: To bear the axial (downward) load applied to the kingpin by the weight of the wheel and suspension, reduce friction,

and prevent direct wear of the lower end of the kingpin and the I-beam bearing hole. Wear will cause heavy steering, abnormal noise,

and abnormal wear of the lower end of the kingpin.

5. Grease fitting:

Sometimes a new grease fitting (grease nipple) is included.

Function: Installed on the kingpin lubrication channel of the steering knuckle, used to regularly add grease, lubricate the kingpin,

bushing and bearing, reduce wear, and extend service life.
